The Museum Het Catherina Gasthuis is housed in a 1665 mansion near Sint Janskerk, which was formerly used as a hospital. The Museum houses an interesting collection of items relevant to the history of Gouda, including a plaque with a Latin inscription, which says that Erasmus may have been born in Rotterdam, but that he was conceived in Gouda. Other items of note include a gold chalice presented to the Society of Archers by Countess Jacqueline of Bavaria.
